How to Organize IPTV Channels and Favorites
Turn a long channel list into a fast, personal TV experience: create favourites, hide unused groups, reorder channels, set up per-person lists and back up your layout.

A full IPTV channel list can be long, and scrolling through it with a remote gets old fast. A few minutes of organising makes your player feel like a personal TV service: your channels first, everything else out of the way.
Menu names vary by player, but the features below are common across most of them.
Step 1: Create favourites
Favourites are the single most useful organising tool.
- Highlight a channel in the list.
- Long-press Select/OK, or press the menu or options button.
- Choose Add to favourites (sometimes a star or heart icon).
- Repeat for the channels you watch most.
Many players show a Favourites group at the top of the list and in the guide. Some let you create multiple favourites lists — for example "News", "Kids" and "Sport".
Step 2: Hide groups you never use
Channels are organised into groups (from the group-title in an M3U playlist, or categories in Xtream Codes). Hiding unused groups:
- Makes browsing faster
- Speeds up loading on low-powered devices
- Makes the guide less cluttered
Look for Settings → Manage groups / categories → Hide, or long-press a group name.
Step 3: Reorder channels and groups
Many players let you:
- Move groups up or down
- Sort channels by number, name or the playlist order
- Drag channels within favourites into your preferred order
Putting your favourites group first gives you a TV-like "channel 1, 2, 3" experience.
Step 4: Set channel numbers (if supported)
Some players let you assign numbers so you can type a number on the remote to jump to a channel. If yours does, number your favourites starting at 1.
Step 5: Lists for each person
In a shared household:
- Create a favourites list per person, or
- Use player profiles, if available, so each person sees their own layout
- On shared devices, combine this with a PIN lock for adult groups
See how to choose an IPTV service for your household for more household tips.
Step 6: Make the guide work for you
- Show only favourites in the guide view for a compact schedule
- Set the guide to open on the current time
- If channels show no guide data, match them manually: the TV guide setup steps
Step 7: Back up your layout
Favourites and hidden groups are stored in the player app, not with your subscription. To avoid redoing them:
- Use the player's backup/export feature, or its cloud sync if offered
- Back up before reinstalling the app or resetting the device
- Restore the backup on other devices to copy your layout — see using IPTV on multiple devices
When favourites disappear
Favourites are usually tied to channel IDs or names. They can disappear if:
- The app was reinstalled or its data cleared
- The playlist was removed and re-added
- Channel IDs changed in the playlist
Restore from a backup if you have one. Otherwise, re-adding takes a few minutes with the steps above.
